nDNi ion THIS PAGE OF THE BOOK OF REMINISCENES OF THE HEBREW FREE LOAN ASSOCIATION IS DEDICATED TO MR. DAVID SAFIR AND FAMILY BY HIS BROTHER CHARLES SAFIR Mr. David Safir was born in Ukraine, Russia. He immigrated to South America and for ten years he took an active part in commercial and cultural life, from South America he moved to Mexico living for many years in Mexico City and in Monterey. There his home became a mecca for Jewish immigrants. The blessings of a substantial prosperity enabled him to extend a helping hand to immi grants from all parts of the world. The kindliness and hospitality extended by him and his family has become legend in Mexico. In 1930 he and his family moved to San Antonio, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Safir became active members in Jewish Community life. Mr. David Safir is a member of Congregation Agu- das Achim, Zionist Organization and the Community Center. Together with his brothers he has dedicated a room in the Center in memory of his parents. Mr. Safir is a member of the Hebrew Free Loan and a very active trustee in this worthy organization. Mrs. Bertha Safir also gives a great deal of time and effort towards many local Jewish Organizations. She has been twice President of the Pioneer Women's Organization and is a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Agudas Achim, The Hadassah, The Jewish Women's Council, The Ort Guardian Club and The Mother's Club. Mr. and Mrs. Safir have six children; three boys, Nathan, Jack and Alexander, and three girls, Mrs. Paul M. Mazur, Mrs. Louis Michael and Mrs. H. Bar- ban. f 1 January 19, 1940 San Antonio, Texas
